Jiaxi Chen

I was born in Jingdezhen, China, a city known as the porcelain capital, surrounded by clay, kilns, and many local ceramic artists. Before working with ceramics, I spent two years as a software engineer. Over time, I felt a strong pull back to clay, and eventually chose to become a ceramic artist.

I like to analyze my emotions in a rational way. I am curious about where each feeling comes from, what shape it has, and how it appears. I pay close attention to how emotions move through me: they seem to guide me, while I quietly observe them. In this back-and-forth, we learn how to coexist.

My works are containers for my memory. I carve and shape them into form, and with each piece I see myself more clearly behind the feelings.
